The Foreign Ministry Issues Clarification Regarding Video Clips Of A Number Of Kidnapped Iraqis In Iran

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a clarification today, Wednesday, regarding video clips of a number of kidnapped Iraqis in Iran.

The ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, told the semi-official Iraqi News Agency, "Some social networking sites published videos of a number of kidnapped Iraqis in Iran near the Iranian-Turkish border, and they were released in exchange of money by the kidnappers," noting that "the video clips date back to a kidnapping a month ago, July 2023".

He added, "The competent security authorities of both countries and the Iraqi embassy in Tehran are following up on these cases to limit them, since they are carrying out fraudulent operations to obtain money," calling on "citizens not to drift behind social networking sites and unreliable personalities so as not to fall into the hands of these outlaw gangs."
