Traditional Carding, Spindle Tools Sustain Tabuk’s Sadu Weaving Heritage

Tabuk: The carding tool and spindle are ancient traditional instruments used by the Bedouin of Tabuk Region to prepare raw wool and goat hair for Sadu weaving and tent making. The carding tool, consisting of two wooden blocks with iron teeth, detangles and softens raw wool to remove knots and strengthen the fibers. Once prepared and fluffed, the wool is spun into durable yarn using a spindle, a thin wooden stick with an X-shaped disc, ready to be woven into sturdy panels for traditional Bedouin tents.

According to Saudi Press Agency, local craftswoman Sarah Al-Atwi emphasized that this craftsmanship is a living cultural heritage reflecting the authentic values and lifestyle of Tabuk's Bedouin community. Today, these traditional practices continue to receive widespread attention and support at local heritage festivals, ensuring that they are preserved and passed down to future generations.
