The National Security Adviser, Qassem Al-Araji, received in his office today, Tuesday, the Assistant Secretary of State of the United States of America for Middle East Affairs, Barbara Leaf, and her accompanying delegation, in the presence of the US Ambassador to Baghdad, Alina Romanowski.
The meeting witnessed, according to a statement by the Chancellery, a review of the overall political and security situation, at the international and regional levels, as well as a discussion of strengthening and developing relations between Iraq and the United States, in addition to discussing files and issues of common concern, especially the file of the Syrian al-Hol camp, and the importance of closing it.
Al-Araji indicated that the continued support and assistance of the United States to Iraq is important for Al- Sudani government, in order to implement its governmental program and advance the Iraqi reality, stressing that Iraq stems from its national interests and the principle of dialogue and diplomacy in its relations with the countries of the world, pointing out that Iraq seeks to be an arena of peace and stability, not an arena of conflict, calling for urging countries to withdraw their nationals from Al-Hol camp, especially those wanted by the judiciary.
For her part, the US Assistant Secretary of State affirmed the continued support of the United States for Iraqi sovereignty, noting that Iraq is witnessing remarkable security and political stability, reaffirming her country's support for the Iraqi government's approach that puts Iraq today in the right direction.
