Jeddah: The International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO 2026), hosted by Saudi Arabia in Jeddah from August 2 to 9, concluded today with the participation of 120 students and scientific specialists from 19 countries under the slogan "Bright Minds for a Promising Future."
According to Saudi Press Agency, the third edition of the International Nuclear Science Olympiad was jointly organized by the Ministry of Education, Mawhiba, and King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE), and hosted by King Abdulaziz University, marking the first time the event was held in the Middle East.
INSO 2026 President Dr. Maya Al Azri praised Saudi Arabia's hosting during the closing ceremony at King Faisal Conference Center at King Abdulaziz University, commending the level of organization and integration among government entities, academic institutions, organizing committees, and volunteers.
Saudi Arabia topped the results, with Amjad Mahmoud Issa Al-Darwish winning first place, the gold medal, and the title of "Nuclear Science Ambassador" after achieving the highest combined score in both examinations. Jana Saleh Abdullah Al-Subeil won a gold medal and the "Best Female Student" award presented by the IAEA. Abdulaziz Abdulmohsen Al-Shurayt won the silver medal, while Saleh Mubarak Daifallah Al-Harbi won the bronze medal. INSO 2026 awarded eight gold medals, 13 silver medals, and 18 bronze medals, along with several special awards.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Saudi Arabia handed over the hosting of INSO 2027 to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
