Libyan Helianthemum Reflects Rich Plant Diversity of Northern Borders Region

Riyadh: Northern Borders Region is home to a diverse array of desert plants, including the Libyan Helianthemum, a native species found in several desert areas across the region that contributes to biodiversity and the sustainability of local ecosystems.

According to Saudi Press Agency, it belongs to the genus Helianthemum in the family Cistaceae and is scientifically known as Helianthemum lippii. It is distinguished by its ability to thrive in harsh desert conditions and areas with limited rainfall, making it well-suited to arid environments and playing an important role in supporting natural vegetation cover.

Head of the Aman Environmental Association in Northern Borders Region Nasser Al-Majlad emphasized that the presence of Libyan Helianthemum indicates healthy vegetation and reflects the region's rich biodiversity.

Preserving native plants maintains ecological balance, provides natural habitats for a wide range of wildlife, reduces soil degradation, and helps combat desertification.
