Alula: AlUla is highlighting its rich historical legacy on the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, observed annually on May 21, as one of the most prominent cultural crossroads where civilizations met and knowledge was exchanged over thousands of years, reflecting its deep human heritage and enduring cultural significance along the ancient trade routes of northwest Arabia.

According to Saudi Press Agency, AlUla embodies this civilizational legacy through its archaeological and historical landmarks, led by Hegra, the first Saudi site inscribed on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage List. The site preserves rock-cut facades, inscriptions, and multiple languages documenting the succession of civilizations that settled in the region and helped shape its cultural identity over the centuries.

Throughout its history, AlUla served as a major passageway for caravans, travelers, and pilgrims, fostering cultural diversity reflected in local lifestyles, traditions, and social customs-traces of which remain visible today in Islamic inscriptions, ancient writings, and heritage sites spread across the governorate.
