Riyadh: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has entered into a joint program with Zamzam Foundation to initiate an integrated agricultural development project in Somalia. This initiative, under the Bathraa Initiative, aims to support farmers and foster sustainable agricultural growth in the Federal Republic of Somalia.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the program involves the rehabilitation of neglected farmland, repair of main and secondary irrigation canals, and the provision of solar-powered water pumps in the Hirshabelle and South West states. In addition, farmers will be equipped with agricultural tools and inputs, and trained in modern farming techniques. The initiative also includes the supply of tractors to three agricultural cooperative associations, all under the guidance of Somalia's Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. The project is expected to benefit 4,800 individuals.
This initiative is a part of Saudi Arabia's broader humanitarian and relief efforts through KSrelief, aimed at supporting affected communities, enhancing food security, and improving livelihoods, thereby contributing to sustainable development.
