Urgent Medical Procedure Restores Sight of Algerian Pilgrim in Madinah

Madinah: A specialized retinal and vitreous surgery team at Ohud Hospital in Madinah successfully restored the vision of an Algerian female pilgrim in her sixties, who had arrived to perform Hajj rituals, following an urgent medical intervention that saved her right eye and restored her sight.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the Madinah Health Cluster noted that the beneficiary was brought by ambulance to the emergency department at Ohud Hospital while suffering from sudden vision loss in her right eye. Clinical examinations, specialized retinal imaging, and ultrasound scans revealed an acute retinal detachment, requiring immediate medical intervention.

The health cluster said the medical team immediately decided to perform a precise procedure to treat the retinal detachment, which included complete removal of the vitreous fluid, accurately identifying tear locations under a microscope, restoring the retina to its normal anatomical position, performing laser treatment for the tears, and injecting silicone oil to stabilize the retina and ensure its stability.

The patient showed significant improvement in vision following the procedure and regained sight in her right eye. She was discharged from the hospital in stable condition and proceeded to the holy sites to perform Hajj rituals.

This success reflects the readiness of medical expertise and advanced treatment capabilities at medical facilities in Madinah to provide urgent and specialized healthcare for pilgrims, ensuring they can continue their spiritual journey with health and reassurance.
